I was invited to participate in a DACUM for York Tech yesterday. We were essentially creating the criteria and focus for the curriculum of study for the General Business degree. The organization felt that the curriculum was lacking input from small business entrepreneurs, so they invited a group of us into the room to discuss. We detailed our daily tasks in a brainstorming session, then we compared them to the existing curriculum. Most of what they already had was sound and relevant. We did though discover that the notion of business model was somehow excluded almost entirely. The reason of course is that the program was more in tune with training people to be an entry level employee into a business, as opposed to starting a business. Though that’s why they called the DACUM, so I’m glad it worked out. It was interesting… kind of nostalgic and kind of boxed in… to be back in Academia. I have not visited that world in a while. It’s a positive place mostly, I think.
